Gov. Andrew Cuomo: New York sports venues can reopen at 10 percent capacity
Fans of New York sports franchises will finally get to attend games in person after nearly one year away, provided the teams allow fans.
According to ESPN's Malika Andrews, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that sports venues can reopen at 10 percent capacity on Feb. 23.
It's unclear which professional teams will allow fans beginning later this month. The New York Knicks, Nets, Islanders, Rangers, Sabres, Yankees and Mets will all have decisions to make in the coming weeks. The Jets, Giants and Bills won't have to worry about fans attending games anytime soon with the 2020 NFL season over.
Cuomo allowed the Bills to host over 6,000 fans for their two home playoff games against the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens last month.
While many states are lifting restrictions, health experts are cautioning people to continue wearing masks and practice social distancing. The CDC now recommends wearing two masks for increased protection against COVID-19. It's unclear if Cuomo will make fans wear two masks to sporting events.
