Free agent Laurent Brossoit is confirmed to have signed a new contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The deal for the veteran goalie will be worth $3.3 million per year for two years.

Laurent Brossoit Signs New Deal

Laurent Brossoit’s arrival with the Chicago Blackhawks should stabilize the team’s stable of goalies. Brossoit has been excellent over the last two years, albeit in fairly limited minutes. The British Colombia native played 23 games (starting 22 of them) last year for the Winnipeg Jets after signing with them over the offseason, racking up a .927 save percentage and 14.9 goals saved above expected. The goaltender also notched a .927 save percentage the season prior while playing for the Vegas Golden Knights in 11 appearances. Brossoit would seemingly fit best in a trio of goaltenders or as a backup to a workhorse starter. This was the case during his most successful seasons in Winnipeg behind Connor Hellebuyck.

Laurent Brossoit, a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, received a nomination for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy last year for his perseverance and dedication to the game of hockey.

Brossoit’s NHL Career So Far

Brossoit has put up impressive numbers over parts of his career, but he has also struggled to find a long-term home. The Calgary Flames initially drafted Brossoit before he debuted for the Edmonton Oilers. Brossoit then went on to play for the Vegas Golden Knights and spent two stints with Winnipeg while never appearing in more than 22 games in one season.

While Brossoit has proven to be a solid option in recent years, he did experience some inconsistency in earlier seasons. He has posted below a .900 save percentage with a minimum of 10 appearances on three separate occasions. The most recent such year came in 2021-22 with the Vegas Golden Knights. That being said, Brossoit will turn 32 next season and will have hopefully rounded into a more consistent netminder.
