Maple Leafs recall No. 1 prospect Nick Robertson

With a 33-14-4 record and as one of just six teams in the Eastern Conference with at least 70 points, the Toronto Maple Leafs could have a real shot at making a serious playoff run for the first time in nearly two decades. They learned on Friday that they'll be making an addition to the roster that may give them the extra boost that they need.

Toronto has recalled No. 1 prospect Nick Robertson from the Marlies of the American Hockey League. The forward has posted three goals and eight points in nine games this season.

Robertson suffered a non-displaced fracture of the right fibula in the second contest of the campaign, which sidelined him until Feb. 2.

"Sometimes teams get a lot of players, and sometimes you don’t get an opportunity you want and sometimes there’s another team in the NHL that will give their young guys an opportunity," Robertson told Joshua Kloke of The Athletic last week. "At this point, I just want to be healthy and playing. I want to play in the NHL. I think I deserve to and I think I’m working towards that. I want to prove that for sure.”

The 20-year-old was selected 53rd overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He played in six NHL games last season, recording nine shots on goal and one assist.
