A new era began in Oilers Nation last week with the news breaking that Dave Tippett out as the Head Coach of Edmonton. With that, Jay Woodcroft earned a promotion, filling in the void left by Tippett on an interim basis.

With Woodcroft in Edmonton, Colin Chaulk is the new Head Coach of the Bakersfield Condors. Chaulk is familiar with the Condors after being an assistant coach under Woodcroft. Before joining Bakersfield this season, he last had a head coaching position with Brampton Beast in the ECHL.

Keith Gretzky has temporarily joined him on the pine with the Condors, promoting former Condors assistant Dave Manson to Edmonton.

It’s early days, but the Chaulk era’s start has been intriguing, which we’ll get into right now.

Condors Score Lots & Concede Lots

If you like watching goals being scored, then watching Bakersfield Condors this past seven days would’ve been a treat for you.

In four games, Bakersfield scored 15 goals while conceding 15. They split those four games with wins against the Henderson Silver Knights and Ontario Reign. Cooper Marody and Raphael Lavoie each had great weeks with five points each.

Lavoie looks to have found his rhythm more and more as the season progresses. He has five goals and 10 points in his last ten games, taking his season tally to 23 points. With Tyler Benson and Ryan McLeod likely permanently in Edmonton, Lavoie is quickly becoming one of the go-to guys in Bakersfield.

Despite scoring 15 goals as a team, Dylan Holloway didn’t score a point and hasn’t since January 29th.

Between the pipes, only Alex Stalock grabbed himself a win. Stalock allowed only three goals in his two starts and finished with a 0.941 save percentage. In his lone start against Henderson, Ilya Konovalov allowed seven goals on 32 shots. Then finally, Stuart Skinner got the call last night against Abbotsford but couldn’t find the form that allowed him to shutout the San Jose Sharks on Monday. Instead, he allowed four goals on 36 shots.

The Consistent Tyler Tullio

Tyler Tullio puts up over a point-per-game each week and sees his points tally climb and climb. This week was no different, scoring three goals and five points in as many games. The Oilers prospect has 23 goals and 58 points in 42 games with the Oshawa Generals.

Tullio was named the second star of the game versus the Peterborough Petes in a 6-3 win, grabbing a goal and two assists. He followed that up with a two-goal outing against Hamilton scoring Oshawa’s only goals of the game.

Tullio is now only eight points away from tying his career-high in points. He set that high in the 2019-20 season with 66 points in 62 games. Right now, he’s only played in 42. It’s been a great season for Tullio.

Prospects In Russia

With everything going on between Russia and Ukraine, the KHL halted its play, cancelling the remainder of the regular season. The junior leagues in Russia also stopped play which means Maxim Beryozkin and Maxim Denezhkin won’t be seeing the ice anytime soon. The hope is that they can return to play in the playoffs. We shall see.
