PITTSBURGH - Mike Sullivan stated following the Pittsburgh Penguins morning skate that Tristan Jarry would be the starting netminder.

Jarry has only played two games since his initial injury at the Winter Classic, and has been on the Penguins injured reserve.

With Sullivan’s announcement, it was obvious that Jarry would be lifted from the IR and third string goalie Dustin Tokarski was likely being re-assinged to the AHL.

The Penguins made everything official within a few hours of puck drop against the New York Islanders.

Jarry was activated from injured reserve and Tokarski re-assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

This will be Jarry’s first game action in almost a month when he took took an overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.

On the year, Jarry is 16-5-5 with a .921 save percentage and a single shutout in 27 games played.

In Jarry’s absence, Casey DeSmith was given the majority of time in net and he did what he could.

In DeSmith’s 14 games played since the Winter Classic, he has put up a 6-5-2 record with a .897 save percentage.

Jarry’s return couldn’t have come at a better time for the Penguins as they sit on the verge of freefall.

Things don’t look great, but maybe their starting goalie can add a little extra juice to the morale of the team.
