Pittsburgh Penguins confirm player has tested positive for COVID-19

On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed via an official club statement that one player has tested positive for COVID-19.

"The Pittsburgh Penguins were advised today that a player tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The player is not in Pittsburgh and has been in isolation at his home since first experiencing symptoms. He is recovered and feeling well. Those in close contact with the player leading up to his diagnosis have been notified.

"The health and safety of our players, fans, staff, and community remains our highest priority. The club will have no further update at this time."

As has been the case with teams around the world, the Penguins didn't identify the player.

On Wednesday, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur confirmed one of their employees tested positive for the coronavirus. Later that day, Major League Soccer club FC Dallas announced one of the club's players tested positive.

Last week, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman revealed the league's 24-team return-to-play model to crown a 2020 Stanley Cup champion.
