Nashville Predators defenseman Luke Schenn. Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators announced that defenseman Luke Schenn will miss the next four to six weeks with a lower-body injury.

Schenn has played one game with the Preds this season and posted four hits and one blocked shot in 15:11 of ice time against Tampa Bay on opening night.

During free agency, Schenn signed a three-year contract with a $2.75M cap hit. He spent the 2022-23 season split between the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs and is coming off a career year in terms of points per game, as he had four goals, 18 assists, and 22 points in just 70 games in the regular season, although he had just one goal in 15 games with the Leafs. It’s the third time he hit his career-high of 22 points, doing so in 2010-11 and 2011-12 during his first stint with the Leafs. He also had one assist in 11 playoff games for the Leafs as they won their first playoff series in 19 years.

Schenn was initially drafted fifth overall by the Leafs in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft after a stellar year in the Western Hockey League. He spent four years in the organization before he was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in a trade for James van Riemsdyk. Since his Flyers tenure, Schenn has bounced around, playing for the Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, Canucks, and Tampa Bay Lightning before returning to both Vancouver and Toronto in the past two seasons. He won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. In a career that has spanned 16 years thus far, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, product has tallied 191 points, 1,435 blocked shots and 3,160 hits in 934 regular season games.
