General manager Barry Trotz announced on Friday that the Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Dante Fabbro to a one-year, $2.5 million contract for the 2024-25 season.

Fabbro has 12 points (2g-10a) in 51 games with Nashville this season, his fifth as a full-time NHL player. He is currently tied for third on the Predators in plus-minus at +11. The 25-year-old has played 570 minutes alongside Nashville Captain Roman Josi this season, and the duo is fifth among NHL defensive pairs in expected goals percentage at 57.8 percent (among pairs with at least 200 minutes of ice time together). Fabbro also ranks fifth on his team in blocked shots (79) and is averaging 16:34 of ice time this season.

This was a qualifying offer for Fabbro, a pending RFA in the 2024 offseason. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025. Both Fabbro and fellow right-shot defenseman Alexandre Carrier, a pending UFA this offseason, had been the subjects of various trade rumors leading up to Friday's NHL trade deadline; while signing Fabbro does not negate the possibility of signing Carrier to an extension before July 1, it's a situation that bears watching as the Predators and Carrier's camp are, according to Trotz, "still talking."
