Rangers to retire legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist's number during 2021-22 season

The New York Rangers announced Friday that they will be retiring Henrik Lundqvist's jersey number at a game during the 2021-22 season. He wore No. 30 in all of his 15 seasons on Broadway.

Lundqvist announced his retirement from the NHL Friday morning. In his 15 seasons with the Rangers, the 39-year-old was 459-310-96 with a 2.43 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. He is the franchise's all-time leader in wins and shutouts.

The native of Sweden was bought out by the Rangers in 2020 and later signed with the Washington Capitals. However, he never played a game for the franchise after undergoing open-heart surgery in January.

Several other goaltenders have had their numbers retired by their respective clubs, including Johnny Bower (Toronto Maple Leafs), Martin Brodeur (New Jersey Devils), Ken Dryden (Montreal Canadiens), Dominik Hasek (Buffalo Sabres), Roberto Luongo (Florida Panthers), Patrick Roy (Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche) and Mike Vernon (Calgary Flames).

Although Lundqvist never won a Stanley Cup, he'll undoubtedly end up in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
