Two National Hockey League players were placed on waivers by their respective teams on Tuesday afternoon: New York Rangers winger Tyler Pitlick and Chicago Blackhawks center Luke Philp.

Pitlick, 32, has one goal and four points in 34 games with the Rangers this season. He’s under contract through the end of the current season at a $787,500 cap hit.

Philp, 28, has yet to play a game at the NHL or AHL levels this year while recovering from injury. He signed a one-year, two-way contract extension to remain with the Blackhawks last March.

The Edmonton Oilers originally selected Pitlick in the second round (No. 31 overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft. The Minneapolis, Minnesota product made his NHL debut with the Oilers in the 2013-14 season.

After parts of three seasons with the Oilers, Pitlick joined the Dallas Stars ahead of the 2017-18 season. He set career highs with 14 goals and 27 points in 80 games with the Stars that year.

Since his time in Dallas, Pitlick has not spent more than one full season with any single NHL team, bouncing around between the Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, and Rangers organizations.

Through 420 career games over parts of 10 NHL seasons with eight different teams, Pitlick has collected 56 goals and 109 points. He’s added two goals and an assist in 22 career playoff games with the Stars and Flyers.

Philp has appeared in three NHL games during his career, all with the Blackhawks during the 2022-23 season. The Canmore, Alberta product spent three seasons in the Calgary Flames organization before signing with the Blackhawks in 2022; he picked up his first NHL point (an assist) with last year’s Blackhawks team.

The lone player placed on waivers on Monday, Ottawa Senators winger Zack MacEwen, cleared on Tuesday without being claimed.
