Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett is closing in on an eight-year contract extension worth $49.6 million, The Athletic reported Friday.

The deal has an average annual value of $6.2 million for Tippett, who was acquired from the Florida Panthers on March 19, 2022, as part of the trade that sent former Flyers captain Claude Giroux to Sunrise, Fla.

Tippett, 24, has totaled 86 points (49 goals, 37 assists) in 144 games played with Philadelphia. He has 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in 46 games this season, which represents the final campaign of his two-year, $3 million contract.

He has 119 points (63 goals, 56 assists) in 238 career games since being selected by Florida with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NHL Draft.
