Senators fire Pierre McGuire after less than a year
The Ottawa Senators have relieved Pierre McGuire of his role as the team's senior vice-president of player development. AJ Jakubec and Steve Lloyd of TSN confirmed the report.
The Senators hired McGuire for the position in July of 2021. He was previously employed as a scout for the Senators and became an assistant coach in 1995. He was fired from that job in 1996.
McGuire's latest position with Ottawa always seemed like an odd fit from outside the organization. The exact parameters of his role with the team were unclear and he made almost no public appearances or statements while he was there.
McGuire, 60, spent the better part of the last three decades on the broadcasting side of hockey, working on camera for TSN and for NBC Sports. Prior to that, he made scouting and coaching stops with the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and Hartford Whalers before his first go-round with the Senators. He won a Stanley Cup as part of the Penguins coaching staff in 1992.
There has not yet been a public statement from McGuire or the Senators regarding the firing.
