According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Ottawa Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg did not participate in the team's skate on Monday and is unlikely to play Monday night against the Dallas Stars.

The Senators have also recalled AHL goalie Kevin Mandolese to backup Magnus Hellberg against the Stars. If it is indeed Hellberg in net, it will be his first NHL start since he played a game for the Detroit Red Wings last season. He has five games of NHL experience and a wealth of professional experience playing for teams in Russia, Sweden and North America.

The Forsberg news is troubling for the Senators, who are now without both of their NHL goalies, Forsberg and Cam Talbot. Talbot is still a few weeks away from returning to NHL action. They have also learned that center Josh Norris will miss at least two weeks with a shoulder injury.

The Senators’ depth will be tested at the forward and goaltending positions, beginning Monday against the red-hot Dallas Stars.

Hellberg was claimed by the Senators off of waivers from the Seattle Kraken when they found out that Talbot would be missing time with an injury. This is a great opportunity for him to make his mark on the NHL and prove he belongs.

The Senators and the Stars have both been on a roll of late. Dallas has a record of 4-0-1 to start the season and Ottawa has won three home games consecutively. The silver lining for the Senators is that the Stars will be resting starter Jake Oettinger and backup Scott Wedgewood will start Monday night.

To make it four in a row at home the Senators will need a solid debut performance from Hellberg.
