Team Canada forward and Ottawa Senators prospect Ridly Greig left Wednesday’s quarterfinal game at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship with an injury and did not return.

Greig appeared to suffer the injury late in the first period after taking a hit from Team Switzerland defenseman Vincent Despont.

During the second period, Team Canada announced Greig would not return to the game. The 6-foot, 172-pound center took one shot on goal prior to his departure.

The Senators originally selected Greig in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

The former Brandon Wheat Kings forward has played very well for Team Canada at the 2022 World Juniors, scoring three goals and six points in four games during the preliminary round.

Greig appeared in seven American Hockey League games with the Belleville Senators during the 2020-21 season and returned to the team during the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs, picking up an assist in his lone professional appearance last season.

In 39 Western Hockey League games with the Wheat Kings during the 2021-22 regular season, Greig scored 26 goals and 63 points.

Greig’s father, Mark, played 125 NHL games with the Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers during the 1990s and 2000s.
