Senators sign forward Mathieu Joseph to four-year, $11.8 million deal

On Thursday, the Ottawa Senators avoided arbitration, signing forward Mathieu Joseph to a four-year, $11.8 million contract.

Joseph's new deal has an AAV of $2.95 million.

Last season, Joseph finished with a career-high 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists) in 69 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Senators.

Acquired by the Senators in a trade with the Lightning in March, Joseph posted 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in 11 games with Ottawa.

"Mathieu's addition made an immediate positive impact as someone who fit in well with our group," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said via the team's press release. "He has high-end speed, a nose for the net and is responsible in his own end. He's long demonstrated good upside and is someone we're counting on to have another solid season both in 2022-23 and beyond."

The Lightning selected Joseph with a fourth-round pick in 2015. Over three-and-a-half campaigns in Tampa Bay, he played 221 regular-season games, tallying 70 points (37 goals, 33 assists). He registered two assists in 10 playoff games with the Lighting and was part of the 2020-21 Stanley Cup championship team.
