St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong has announced that defenseman Torey Krug has been placed on long-term injury reserve (LTIR) with a lower-body injury. No further details were provided. Krug will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
Krug is in his third season with the Blues organization after signing a monster seven-year $45 million contract in October 2020. The contract holds an average annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million. Krug, 31, has registered 17 points (5G,12A) in 31 games to start the season while possessing a Corsi-for (CF%) of 48.8% and an offensive zone start percentage (oZS%) of 72.9%. He is a big part of the Blues’ top power-play unit, and currently has eight power-play points on the year. Last season he tallied 43 points in 64 games and three points in three games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Overall throughout his 12-year NHL career so far between the Boston Bruins and Blues, Krug has recorded 429 points (83G, 346A) in 669 games.
Furthermore, the Blues announced that they have recalled defenseman Tyler Tucker from their AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds. Tucker was selected 200th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. Last season, he led the Thunderbirds in fighting majors with six and 114 penalty minutes. This season, Tucker has registered 13 points (1G, 12A) in 24 games, along with 45 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in four games with the Blues this season, while he has zero points, he did get his first NHL fight in the bag when he and Anaheim Ducks scrapper Sam Carrick dropped the gloves. The Blues currently sit fifth in the Central Division with a record of 16-16-2 this season.
