Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper commented on the status of Lightning forward Tanner Jeannot this morning, Jeannot is expected to undergo further evaluation but Cooper points to Jeannot being out of the lineup week-to-week.

The Oxbow, Saskatchewan product left Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Boston Bruins with an upper-body injury. Jeannot has six goals and 12 points in 44 games this season.

Jeannot signed a two-year contract extension with the Lightning, the contract carries a $2.665 million cap hit through the end of the 2024–25 season. The Lightning originally acquired Jeannot from the Nashville Predators ahead of the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for five draft picks, including a 2025 first-round selection, and defenseman Cal Foote. He collected six goals and 18 points in 76 games split between the Predators and Lightning during the 2022–23 regular season. 

The six-foot-two, 208-pound left winger signed with the Predators in 2018 as an undrafted forward. He played junior hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League (WHL) compiling 170 points in 267 career games. Jeannot spent time in the AHL and ECHL in 2020–21 season before making his NHL debut with the Predators that same year. During the 2021-22 campaign, Jeannot led all rookies with 24 goals and had over 100 penalty minutes as one of the most penalized fighters. He fnished seventh in Calder Trophy voting.

Through 213 career NHL games over parts of four seasons with the Predators and Lightning, Jeannot has collected 42 goals, 78 points, and 300 penalty minutes. He’s added two assists in 12 career playoff contests with Nashville and Tampa Bay.

Tampa is set to play the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday and the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
