Heading into Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there was a “threat” made by Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars because of what happened between Darnell Nurse and Roope Hintz in Game 2. Nurse slashed the shin pad of Hintz and this is how the play looked.

“A lot of that stuff, you just keep in the back of your mind, & if the opportunity presents itself, then you take your chance,”

“We’ve got a long series here.”

– Marchment

Dallas Stars Head Coach Peter DeBoer was not too happy about that play and himself with Stars fans alike, thought that it should have been a five-minute major.

Here’s what was said about that play:

The Dallas Stars have gotten away with some dirty plays

While the Dallas Stars have been busy whining and complaining about the slash from Darnell Nurse, they have gotten away with some plays that should have definitely been called penalties against them for sure.

I understand that it is Playoff Hockey and that everything is just that much more intense, but what I do not understand is why some teams resort to playing dirty, especially when they are losing the game or down by a lot.

This is definitely a tactic that the Stars have started to use against the Oilers and I do not like it. One thing to mention as well, is that the Dallas Stars are not the only Stanley Cup Playoffs team that has been playing a bit dirty in my opinion. I will not list the other team names, but there could be one or two more that you could list in the dirty play style category.

The Edmonton Oilers got lucky with a goal of their own

With everything that Dallas resorted to throughout the game on Sunday afternoon, the Oilers actually ended up getting a lucky break of their own that ended up with them scoring the first goal of the game with 5:58 remaining in the first period.

Brett Kulak “apparently” played the puck right out and over the glass in his defensive zone which is called a delay of game penalty every time, but this time the refs talked about the play and did not call it a penalty because they did not fully see what had happened.

It was definitely a tough break for Dallas Stars fans, as the Oilers would then go on to score again but this time only 36 seconds later. The score was now 2–0 and the Stars had to play from behind the rest of the way.

Have the Oilers started to find the Stars gameplay cracks?

Yes it was only Game 3 of the Western Conference Final that has been completed between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars, but it has started to seem like the Oilers have found the cracks in the Stars lineup and gameplay, which has helped the team take a 2–1 series lead.

I definitely do not expect Dallas to fully fall apart, but as of right now, it has looked that way and has worked very well in favour of Edmonton. The Stars will be bringing the heat into Game 4 and will also look to tie this series up on the road.

All that the Oilers have to do, is use the momentum that they already have and use that to their advantage through Games 4 and on. Right now, Oil Country is in prime position to potentially watch their team make back-to-back appearances in the Stanley Cup Final.
