The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the Dylan Gambrell. This deal is a one-year worth $775,000 for the upcoming 2023-24 season. News of the deal emerged late Monday morning.

Maple Leafs Ink Dylan Gambrell Contract

Gambrell has played for the San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators during his six-year NHL career. The 26-year-old played in 60 games and total four goals and six assists for 10 points. His Corsi for was 38.4 and had a relative Corsi of -15.5. San Jose originally took Gambrell in the second round, 60th overall of the 2016 NHL Draft.

The Bonney Lake, Washington native has 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 233 career games. He played his college hockey career with Denver University of the NCAA. Gambrell was part of the 2017 NCAA Division I national championship squad with the Pioneers. The veteran forward made the NCHC All-Rookie team in 2016 and the NCHC second team in both 2016 and 2017.

He also helped the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL win the Clark Cup in 2013. Gambrell played three seasons in the USHL and all with the Fighting Saints.

Impact of Dylan Gambrell Contract

Gambrell is expected to be another dept signing for a Maple Leafs squad loading up on one-year deals. New general manager Brad Treliving has added Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi on one-year pacts in attempt to get the Leafs to stay in contention. Toronto does have to find a way to sign restricted free agent goalie Ilya Samsonov. There also needs to be a way to get extensions for Auston Matthews and William Nylander.

Treliving is trying to make his mark on the team, but some may question contracts like what happened with Ryan Reaves. Toronto knows that it’s up against the salary cap. Getting low-cost veterans will help the team out if they want to fill out the bottom six. This is a clear depth signing.
