Veteran NHL defenseman Yannick Weber announces retirement

NHL defenseman Yannick Weber officially announced his retirement from the league on Tuesday. The news was shared via Twitter by the NHL Alumni Association.

According to NHL.com, Weber will continue playing hockey as he recently signed a three-year deal with ZSC of the National League in his native Switzerland.

The 32-year-old blueliner registered 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 499 games stretched over a 13-year career. He was selected in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens and went on to also play for the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators before ending his pro stint with one year on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster. He tallied six points (four goals, two assists) in 42 playoff games, including an apple in the 2017 postseason that helped Nashville make their only franchise Stanley Cup Final appearance.

Weber made a personal announcement on Instagram which summarized his career in the NHL.
