Watch: Capitals-Senators game briefly interrupted by the sun

Millions of people will focus on the sun on Monday afternoon when a total solar eclipse takes place over parts of the United States. The Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators could have used something to block out the sun on Sunday evening at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. because it was causing a surprising problem.

There was an issue during the first period of the game when an open curtain in the upper bowl of the seating area allowed sunlight to shine in through and temporarily blind Senators goalie Joonas Korpisalo.

Imagine trying to stop a one-timer from Alex Ovechkin while also having to fight off some sunlight in your face. That would not be fun.

The sun has been an issue at times for the various outdoor NHL games over the years, but this might be one of the first times it has ever been an issue for an indoor game.

Eventually, the curtain into the seating area was closed so Korpisalo was able to play his position without being blinded by the sun.
