Wayne Gretzky holds a ridiculous amount of records in NHL history, and on the New Heights podcast, he has revealed which of those he's most proud of.

While Wayne Gretzky's reputation may have taken a major hit in recent years, he's still considered by many to be the greatest player of all time in the NHL, breaking an untold amount of records for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers.

For most, he's remembered as an Edmonton Oilers where he won five Stanley Cups, and in his appearance on the New Heights Podcast hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, he opened up on one record that he broke during his time there after he was asked what record he's most proud of in the NHL.

"If I had one record that I cherish the most. I think it's going to be hardest to break and what was I scored 50 goals in 39 games."

The mark of 50 goals in 50 games was hit several times before Gretzky, but with five goals in a game in 1981, he managed to hit the mark in just 39 games, which is an absolutely ridiculous number that will likely never be hit again.

He would continue on with the story, noting that before that game, his roommate asked him how he was feeling, to which Gretzky replied, if he doesn't do it now, people may say he choked the record away.

"So, I was driving to the rink with my roommate. I had 45 goals in 38 games. I was a little more edgy than normal heading into the arena and my buddy turned to me and he said 'Are you okay?'"

"And I said, 'You know, I just thought of this, If I don't get 50 in 50 now, people are going to say I choked."

Obviously, he didn't do that as he posted an amazing five goals in one game, as he would go on to set the NHL record of 92 goals scored in a season, quickly following that up with 87 just two years later.

While there's always going to be criticism of how the game has made scoring harder in modern times, one simply can't overlook just how dominant Gretzky was, and these days, it's very safe to say that no one will score 50 goals in 39 games ever again.
