In waiver news on Monday, the Minnesota Wild claimed defenseman Declan Chisholm off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 24-year-old Chisholm only appeared in two games with the Jets in 2023-24, registering one assist. He’s spent most of the season with their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, registering five assists in six games. Last fall, Chisholm signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Jets organization worth $775,000 in the AHL.

Taken in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Jets, Chisholm, a native of Bowmanville, Ont., had a breakout season in 2022-23 with the Moose, scoring five goals and 38 assists for 43 points in 59 games. He also recorded four assists in five playoff games.

In 146 career AHL games, Chisholm has 16 goals and 75 assists for 91 points over three pro seasons.

Before turning pro, Chisholm spent four years with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes. He finished with a career-high 13 goals, 56 assists, 69 points and a plus/minus of plus-17 in 2019-20, his only season as an alternate captain.

The Wild are 21-23-5 with 47 points through 49 games this season, seventh in the Central Division. They are seven points out from the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They’re currently on break for the All-Star Game, not playing again until Wednesday, Feb. 7 when they face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Windy City.

Meanwhile, the Jets are 30-12-5 with 65 points, third in the Central Division. They’re 6-3-1 in their last 10, but have lost three straight, most recently both games of a home-and-home against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They won’t play again until Tuesday, Feb. 6 when they travel to Pennsylvania to face the Pittsburgh Penguins.
