America East, Atlantic 10 postpone fall sports amid pandemic

On Friday, the America East Conference and Atlantic 10 Conference became the latest collegiate bodies to cancel fall sports due to the worsening coronavirus pandemic.

The America East officially announced that fall sports are suspended "for the duration of the first semester" and that it "will develop plans for a competitive structure in the second semester and will identify a working group to begin studying this immediately."

The A-10, meanwhile, postponed all fall competitions through at least a mid-September "look-in window," when the league could schedule conference-only seasons for some or all sports depending on coronavirus cases among campus communities. If coronavirus risks remain similar or worse by then, fall sports will be moved to the spring pending further evaluation.

The Ivy League, Patriot League, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference are among organizations that suspended sports through at least the end of the year due to the uncontrolled virus outbreak. The Big Ten, Pac-12, and Big East shifted to conference-only schedules.

The ACC, Big 12, and SEC could all wait until late July to announce plans.
