Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming celebrated closing day for the Winter '23/'24 season on April 14th, 2024, but that doesn't winter is over.

A strong May snow storm is currently moving through many parts of the Intermountain West, and JHMR is in the bullseye. Check out the photo below of at least six inches of new snow laying in the JHMR Village this morning, May 3rd:

As we covered in yesterday's article, JHMR and the surrounding peaks of the Tetons could see upwards of three feet of snow before the storm is over.

Jackson Hole's neighbor, as the crow flies, Grand Targhee Resort, is also sporting a fresh coat of white this morning.

Unfortunately, Grand Targhee closed for the season on April 21, 2024, but uphill skiers and splitboarders can access the resort Friday-Sunday. Uphill access is closed Monday-Thursday this spring for construction and lift improvement efforts.

Take a look at a screenshot of Targhee's famous 'Stick of Truth' webcam below. There's about four inches of fresh snow from overnight!

It's odd feeling when it snows this much in May.

On one hand, the joy of skiing powder is revitalized if even for a day, but on the other, seasonal confusion can take its toll.

There are plenty of diehard skiers that actually look forward to a break from the cold. The longer days, warmer temps, and increased sunshine during spring and summer provide respite before the next season gets underway.

Personally... I say LET IT SNOW.

I like a good mountain bike ride as much as the next fella, but I can assure you that I'll be longing for snow by the time July rolls around. I'll take all of the May (snow) storms Mother Nature can send our way.

Have fun, and stay safe out there, friends!
