Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for a striker and a defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

Tottenham are on course to finish inside the top four of the Premier League and secure Champions League football for next season. But, things have taken a major turn as they have slipped to the fifth spot following a defeat at the hands of Newcastle.

It was a 4-0 hammering away from home and they are now three points behind Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. Spurs do have a game in hand but the pressure is on them and the defeat did highlight a few key issues that need to be taken care of ahead of next season. The North London club will look to push for a new number nine and a number six in the summer to reinforce their squad as per Football London.

Ange Postecoglou might have had a good start to life in London but he still feels the need for a few reinforcements to help him compete with the best teams in the league. The Australian boss has identified two key areas that need to be taken care of in the summer.

Tottenham want a striker and a defensive midfielder

Spurs have coped well without their record goal scorer Harry Kane who joined Bayern Munich last summer. While scoring goals haven’t been a problem, they have felt the absence of a central figure in important games. The Newcastle game once again highlighted the fact that they do not have a world-class number nine who can play with his back to the goal and link up with his teammates to open up space in behind.

As a result, Postecoglou wants a top-quality striker in the summer.

He is also keen on adding a number six to the mix. He feels the arrival of a new defensive midfielder will help strengthen both sides of their game. It will give them more control in the centre of the park and he will help them tighten up at the back.

With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg expected to part ways in the summer, reinforcements in the midfield seems a must.
