Atlanta United latest MLS club to announce positive coronavirus test

Atlanta United became the latest Major League Soccer club to announce a positive coronavirus test as players and other personnel prepare for the Orlando tournament that is scheduled to begin July 8.

Atlanta confirmed a first-team player tested positive, and that the club plans to conduct widespread testing on Friday while continuing league-approved workout protocols.

FC Dallas, Philadelphia Union, Montreal Impact, and DC United have all confirmed positive COVID-19 tests since MLS suspended play because of the coronavirus pandemic in March after two matchdays.

Barring a widespread virus outbreak or a massive player revolt, all 26 clubs are expected to travel to the Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World beginning on June 24.

Earlier this week, DC goalkeeper Bill Hamid criticized MLS for what he feels are strict guidelines as it pertains to what players can do and where they can travel after they arrive at their hotels.
