Barcelona will need to keep Luuk de Jong for the duration of his loan spell.

De Jong was a surprise signing for Barcelona in the dying moments of the summer transfer window.

The Sevilla striker was brought in for cover up top with Barca on a very tight budget.

Though, he hasn’t had the seal of approval for Barca fans, not exactly at the standard you would usually expect to find at Camp Nou.

But Xavi Hernandez, who was promised to give all players a fair chance to impress, will have to find a use for the veteran frontman.

That’s because, according to Sport, Sevilla don’t want de Jong back this season.

There were talks Barcelona could seek to reach an agreement with the Andalusian side to cancel the loan early.

But with no recall option, Sevilla must give permission before receiving the striker back.

According to the report, Sevilla don’t plan on receiving de Jong back at the club, even with Youssef En-Nesyri out until early February, and that means Barca will have to keep the Dutchman until the end of the season as things stand.
