Barcelona are expected to have a very busy summer transfer window, with numerous incoming and outgoings planned by Xavi Hernandez, Deco and Joan Laporta. The idea is for numerous players to be moved on, and one of those could be Andreas Christensen, despite an impressive campaign from the defender-turned-midfielder.

As per Sport, Barcelona now consider Christensen to be more expendable, due to the impending signings of Guido Rodriguez and a top-level pivot. A Premier League return could be on the cards for the former Chelsea player, with Newcastle United showing interest in his services.

Interestingly, the report states that Barcelona could use Christensen as part of a swap deal with Newcastle for Alexander Isak, who is being considered as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski, whose future in Catalonia is far from certain.

The problem for Barcelona in this regard is that Newcastle have no plans to sell Isak, although they’d surely be more open to negotiating with them over Arsenal, another club that have shown interest in the Swedish marksman. Still, it’s highly improbable that a player-plus-cash deal could be done because of their financial restrictions, meaning that Christensen’s sale may be the only explorable option.
