Manchester United have been linked with two players at Bayer Leverkusen, who were crowned Bundesliga champions at the weekend.

Leverkusen chief executive Fernando Carro has confirmed that the German champions may have to sell one of their star players this summer.

This news may come as a green light to clubs like United, who may have their eye on members of Xabi Alonso’s championship-winning side, after winning 25 of their 29 league games this season – and remaining unbeaten in all competitions.

A report from the Manchester Evening News in February stated that United are keeping tabs on both Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba. The duo have played starring roles in helping Leverkusen clinch the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club’s history.

Frimpong, who already has family living in Manchester, has excelled at right wing-back, scoring eight goals and registering seven assists, while Tapsoba has been solid at centre-back.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, as quoted by the MEN, Carro said: “Every year we need to sell one big player to find budget for new signings, so probably we will sell one player. We’re planning to sign two or three players with that amount of money.”

Frimpong has reportedly been on United’s radar as a top target since Erik ten Hag was named manager. Both players are under contract at Leverkusen until 2028.
