Francesco Calzona reiterates he is ‘not thinking about’ a future with Napoli, as it would not be possible to hold both that role and coach of Slovakia.

He is the third tactician of the campaign at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona following the dismissal of Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri

Calzona was given the opportunity to take the Napoli job only until the end of the season, but is currently back at his ‘regular’ role in charge of Slovakia.

“This situation happened in a moment where it was possible to do so. The double role is compatible only when there are not official matches planned at international level,” said Calzona to Sport Mediaset.

Slovakia played a 2-0 friendly defeat to Austria on Saturday and have qualified for the Euro 2024 tournament, in a group with Belgium, Romania and another team yet to be decided in the play-offs.

During his time back with Slovakia, he has left some members of his staff behind to work with Napoli, sending back drone footage of training.

It is not a tenable situation and Calzona is well aware of that.

“I am not thinking about Napoli confirming me, because the agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis was only for these few months.

“I have a contract with the Slovakian Federation, who I thank for giving me permission to coach the team of my dreams. We’ll keep going and then see, I just hope to finish in a strong position with Napoli.”

There are already multiple reports that Napoli are working on current Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano to take over for next season.
