Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti gave further indications that he would be starting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois over Andriy Lunin in the Champions League final. Courtois has played their last two league games, and Ancelotti has made it clear that the Belgian was first choice under normal circumstances.

Ancelotti would not say that Courtois would play all of their remaining three league games, which would suggest half a chance that Lunin does retain his place in the Champions League.

“We are evaluating it. Lunin and Kepa are also going to play. It is not going to be that simple because there are not many games. We are thinking about it.”

He was pushed on multiple occasions for his opinion on his goalkeepers, after reports emerged lasty week that the Italian intended to start Courtois in the final.

“I think like you. Lunin has had a great season and Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world.”

“I have told the truth. I think like you. I have to take Lunin into account and I have to take into account that the best goalkeeper in the world is returning. He needs minutes.”

Meanwhile Eder Militao is another uncertain situation. Last season he was their first-choice defender, but as he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Ancelotti confirmed he would not start were the final on Tuesday.

“Not yet. He needs minutes and I hope he can be at his best for the final.”

For Aurelien Tchouameni, who injured his foot against Bayern Munich, the diagnosis is somewhat more pessimistic.

“He doesn’t have much chance, but it’s not ruled out. His foot doesn’t hurt much.”
