Just in time for people struggling with ideas about what to get their Celtic supporting family members for Christmas, Adidas and Celtic team up once more to reveal a remake of Adidas’ iconic 2006 Teamgeist collection, 15 years on from its launch at the 2006 World Cup.

Adidas took the world by storm with its revolutionary football kit design that was embraced by fans worldwide, and now the Celtic collection celebrates Teamgeist 15 years on. When most people see the shirt style they will automatically recognise it as the shirt that was synonymous with Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup 2006, the tournament where he was sensational throughout before a moment of madness saw him sent off in the final for a headbutt to the chest of Marco Materazzi.

Juergen Rank, Senior Design Director at adidas told adidas.com has had this to say:

“THE REVIVED TEAMGEIST COLLECTION IS A FANTASTIC WAY TO CELEBRATE SUCH AN ICONIC DESIGN. MANY FANS STILL REMEMBER THAT ERA AROUND 2006 AND FEEL COMFORTABLE, AND EXCITED, WHEN SEEING THE REMAKES BECAUSE IT TRIGGERS SUCH GREAT MEMORIES.

AT THE SAME TIME, THE TEAMGEIST ERA AND ITS CHARACTERISTIC DESIGNS ARE HIGHLY FASHIONABLE AGAIN. THIS MAKES IT SO EASY TO ADAPT ALSO FOR THE ONES WHICH WERE TOO YOUNG TO WITNESS THE 2006 MAGIC BY THEMSELVES, BUT THEY KNOW AND LOVE THE STYLES FROM BACK THEN”.

The collection is sure to be popular with Celts the world over, with its loose, comfortable fit, curved mesh details, classic cut lines, centrally placed adidas Badge of Sport and embroidered Celtic logo. The look – completed with the Teamgeist logo – is the perfect stylish nod to history, making it a true collector’s item.

Partnered with Japanese magazine ‘Shukyu’ to showcase the new Teamgeist range, a one-off, limited-edition version of the publication will feature the collection through a series of lifestyle photography shot on models, artists and football culture enthusiasts.

As well as images of the new collection, the magazine will also feature interviews with legends from some of the respective clubs, including Oliver Kahn, Rio Ferdinand, David Trezeguet & our original Japanese superstar Shunsuke Nakamura. They will be discussing how the game has changed while looking back on their careers.

“AT THE START OF THE MILLENNIUM, ADIDAS’ TEAMGEIST COLLECTION IN THE 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP

MADE ITS MARK IN FOOTBALL WITH ITS DISTINCTIVE AND INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE STYLE INSPIRED BY THE TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENT BEHIND THE TEAMGEIST BALL. 15 YEARS ON, WE’RE DELIGHTED TO BE TEAMING UP WITH ADIDAS TO SHOWCASE THE REVIVED COLLECTION THROUGH MORE OF A FASHION & CULTURAL LENS”.

Celtic, alongside eight others clubs – Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, Ajax, FC Bayern, Arsenal, Flamengo and Boca Juniors – each has a special edition collection featuring the reimagined Teamgeist design for the modern era, and it’s on sale now.

A truly wonderful range of items available and I can imagine these will be hugely popular with our fans. If you look at the calibre of clubs involved in this project it really does show the high regard our club is held in worldwide. So far our partnership with Adidas has been a match made in heaven with the consensus amongst Celtic fans being that pretty much all the kits, training gear and clothing the German giants have produced for the club have been on point so far.

No news so far regarding theRangers doing something similar with Castore, though with that club only being 9 years old and the sports brand only 6, any thoughts of delving into ‘historic’ collections may be better saved for April’s fools Day as opposed to Christmas.
