Chelsea are set to challenge Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio, according to Spanish publication Sport.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to be busy in the summer transfer market as they look to bridge the gap between themselves, Manchester City and Liverpool.

With so much business expected to be conducted by both clubs, you could have predicted that there’d be some crossover with their transfer targets, as there reportedly is in this instance.

According to Sport, both Thomas Tuchel and Erik ten Hag are interested in adding Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio to their respective squads before the summer is done.

Asensio showed great promise in the early stages of his Real Madrid career but has struggled to kick on and develop into one of the finest attacking midfield players in the world.

What he could need at this point in his career is a change of scenery, something that both Tuchel and ten Hag are understood to be willing to offer the Spaniard this summer.

With his contract due to expire next summer, an opportunity has presented itself for either Chelsea or Man United to snag him on the cheap. This is one to keep an eye on, for sure.
