Chelsea have reportedly made a plan to cover the leadership of departing defender Thiago Silva and quite frankly, their plan is ridiculously hilarious.

I say hilarious because at this point as a Chelsea fan, all you can do is laugh. If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry!

Thiago Silva offers invaluable experience and leadership at the age of 39 and has done in his four years at the club. He has been a quality addition who has often been the leader off the pitch as well as on it. He should really have been made club captain during his time here and probably would have been if he was fluent in English.

The point is, Silva’s experience and leadership skills are going to be really hard to replace, but Chelsea must do all they can to find a suitable replacement regardless.

And apparently, Chelsea’s plans to replace Silva’s leadership is Ben Chilwell and Reece James. I find this hilarious, mainly because these two have barely ever played more than 5 games in a row the entire time they have been at the club, how are they supposed to be leaders if they are never on the pitch?

Also, James is still young. I think he can grow into a good captain with time, but he’s not their yet. Chilwell isn’t young, and perhaps does offer some good leadership in terms of mentoring players. But I don’t see him as a true leader on the pitch, not like Silva or any of our best leaders in the past.

If you’re going to replace someone like Silva, you have to make sure you get it right and not half heartedly like this report from The Evening Standard claims we are looking to do.

This is one of the main reasons that Chelsea are currently sat in 9th place in the league, because we lack leaders and quality and proven experience.
