A Wonderful Debut
Hutchinson left Chelsea’s U21 side last summer to play his first season as a senior footballer at Ipswich. The loan move turned out to be a perfect choice for the 20-year-old, who gradually found his place in McKenna’s plans.
Hutchinson made 16 direct goal contributions in 44 Championship games, helping the team secure promotion. The prospect of testing himself at the top level could be tempting for the youngster. However, he might still leave Stamford Bridge on another loan deal ahead of the next season.
Four Offers
According to BBC, Ipswich are eager to renew Hutchinson’s loan deal or sign him on a permanent contract. However, the newly-promoted side face serious competition from Stuttgart, who will play Champions League football next season.
Hutchinson, whose current deal at Chelsea runs until 2026, is also targeted by Eredivisie giants Ajax and Feyenoord for potential loan deals. However, his recent travel to Stuttgart in the final week of the season has suggested the Bundesliga side are in pole position to sign him.
A final decision on the youngster’s future is expected after Enzo Maresca’s arrival in the coming days.
More Loan Decisions
Hutchinson is not the only Chelsea player whose future is uncertain after spending the 2023-24 season on loan. The Blues have more challenging decisions to make on their numerous loaned-out stars this summer.
Romelu Lukaku is expected to be on Chelsea’s sale list upon his return from Roma. Borussia Dortmund are interested in keeping Ian Maatsen beyond his six-month loan deal, with the 22-year-old’s father confirming talks with the Champions League finalists. Unlike Maatsen, Armando Broja struggled to regain his best form after a mid-season loan move to Fulham. Fabrizio Romano believes the Blues will try to sell the striker on a permanent deal this summer. Hakim Ziyech, who joined Galatasaray last summer, will stay at the Turkish club due to an obligation-to-buy clause in his loan contract.
