Chris Wondolowski doesn't close door on MLS return next season

At 37 years old, Chris Wondolowski's time in Major League Soccer is winding down. However, the San Jose Earthquakes forward isn't closing the door on an MLS return next season.

Wondolowski was set to retire after the 2020 campaign, but now he's reconsidering his options.

"I was pretty set on this being my last year and I want to put everything I have into this being my last year, but I can honestly say I am going to re-evaluate at the end," Wondolowski told Taylor Twellman on ESPN's Banter show. "I didn't think I was going to do that at the beginning of this year. Even four months ago I don't think I was going to re-evaluate but just right now, I think I might re-evaluate at the end.

"But, I'm pretty content on this being my last year, I do want to say that."

The MLS veteran signed a one-year deal with San Jose in October and broke Landon Donovan's all-time scoring record last year. He helped the Houston Dynamo win two MLS Cups before being traded to San Jose in 2009.

Wondolowski won the Golden Boot in 2010 and 2012 while also claiming the league MVP award in 2012 as well. He recently became the oldest MLS player to score in consecutive games.

If he decides to play next year, it'll be his 18th MLS season.
