Could MLS resume 2020 season in Orlando amid coronavirus pandemic?

If the 2020 Major League Soccer season halted by the coronavirus pandemic in March after only two matchdays resumes this summer, all 26 clubs could call Florida home.

On Monday evening, Steven Goff of the Washington Post reported the North American top-flight is considering requesting all teams train and play matches in Orlando for the foreseeable future.

Per Goff's story, players and other club personnel would live under quarantine near Disney World. Matches would be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and they would occur without fans in attendance.

Goff reported family members would not be included in club entourages under this proposal. Eventually, though, it's hoped teams could return to home stadiums and venues for closed-door games without spectators.

Earlier on Monday, ESPN's Jeff Carlisle and Noah Davis reported MLS has requested the MLS Players Association agree to a 20 percent pay cut "across the board" because of the pandemic.

Neither MLS nor the MLSPA has announced any agreements for resuming the season amid the virus outbreak, but players returned to training under strict guidelines earlier this month.

On Monday, SNY's Andy Martino reported MLB wishes to not shut its league down if any players test positive for coronavirus during a season that hasn't yet begun. Last Saturday's UFC 249 show went on as scheduled after Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and two of his cornermen tested positive. Souza was pulled from the card, and the three men were instructed to self-isolate.

It's not known what protocol MLS would follow if a player tests positive for coronavirus before or during the campaign.

Goff added that MLS action may not return until September. This, potentially, could lead to the league following the European calendar, with this season's MLS Cup Final occurring in the spring or early summer.
