The late, great David Potter was last night named as the recipient of the Special Recognition Award for 2024 at the Celtic FC POTY Award ceremony at the Hydro, where 11,000 Celtic supporters gathered alongside the players, management teams and club legends including the King of Kings Henrik Larsson.

But for The Celtic Star, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly the recognition that David received for his outstanding contribution to telling the stories of Celtic Football Club in more than two dozen books, in writing about Celtic on a daily basis on The Celtic Star, his work on the wonderful Celtic Graves project and contributing to many other Celtic outlets over the years including The Celtic View and the Matchday Programme.

David Potter was a huge part of The Celtic Star, our founding father if you like, and his Celtic Diary remains a firm favourite on this site every morning as he still tells the story of Celtic on this Day.

David’s final Celtic game was the Scottish Cup Final against Inverness Caley Thistle last June, he passed away just over a month or so later and is greatly missed by his family, his friends and everyone who knew and respected him.

Rosemary gave The Celtic Star a wee mention last night, talking about how he’s return home after each game and would immediately write up his post-match thoughts for The Celtic Star.

The wonderful reception David received from the 11k Celtic supporters at the Hydro was incredibly moving, with supporters loving the image of him in beside the Green Brigade at the 2019 Scottish Cup final win over Hearts – he was probably teaching them some of the old songs!

David Potter’s Celtic Diary for on this day, 13 May will be posted shortly on The Celtic Star….
