Everton shakes up Premier League table with upset win over Manchester United

Manchester United's chances at a top-six finish took a blow Saturday morning when Everton pulled off a much-needed upset with a 1-0 win.

The only goal of the game came 27 minutes into the match when Anthony Gordon took a shot from just outside the box that deflected off a defender and into the net.

Manchester United dominated possession Saturday and took 12 shots compared to Everton's seven, but couldn't find a goal.

Everton lost 10 of its last 12 matches prior to Saturday and entered the day just one point ahead of Burnley for 17th place in the Premier League. If Everton dropped below Burnley, it would be in line for relegation for the first time in nearly seven decades. Instead, Everton earned three points with its win and are now just two behind Leeds United for 16th.

While it was a triumphant day for Everton, it was another incredibly disappointing result for Manchester United. The team has just one win in its last five matches, and is now tied with West Ham United for sixth place. Chances at a top-four finish and a spot in the UEFA Champions League are disappearing fast and Manchester United is now in danger of missing out on a spot in the Europa League, as well.
