Everton inches closer to possible relegation with loss to West Ham

Everton F.C. has been a first-tier club for nearly seven decades, but its in a precarious position with the Premier League season nearing its end.

With a 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, Everton remains 17th on the Premier League table, just three points ahead of Watford and four ahead of Burnley to stay out of the relegation zone.

Everton fell behind 1-0 in the first half against West Ham when Aaron Cresswell got the scoring started in the 32nd minute with a spectacular free-kick goal.

Early in the second half, Everton leveled the score with a goal from Mason Holgate, but just five minutes later West Ham reclaimed the lead with a Jarrod Bowen goal. Everton's chances at a comeback were then dashed when Michael Keane picked up his second yellow card of the day and the team was forced to finish the match with 10 men.

Everton has been a member of the Premier League since its inception in 1992 and it was a member of the First Division for decades prior to that. The last time Everton was a second-tier club was the 1953-54 season.

On Wednesday, Everton will play a crucial match against Burnley that could either provide some breathing room or put the team in a full-fledged panic.
