Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan admits that the team have long been imagining clinching Serie A against AC Milan.

The 35-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, during the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title celebrations.

Now it’s official. Inter are Serie A champions for the 2023-24 season.

The Nerazzurri had previously won the title in the 2020-21 campaign.

The last couple seasons have seen the team fail to win the title. They lost in heartbreaking fashion on the last day of the season in 2021-22 – and then last season were miles behind Napoli.

But now, Inter have won their twentieth title. And with it, they can now sew the second star above the crests on their shirts.

A 2-1 win against Milan in a fiery derby was enough to make sure of that.

There were three red cards in what proved to be a dramatic conclusion to the evening.

But when referee Alessandro Colombo blew his final whistle, the Inter players and staff came streaming onto the pitch to celebrate not just the derby win, but the title.

Mkhitaryan: Inter Thinking About Clinching Serie A Vs AC Milan For Two Months

Mkhitaryan described winning the Serie A title as “Unforgettable.”

“We’ve made history,” the Armenian former Arsenal, Manchester United, Roma, and Borussia Dortmund veteran continued.

“Even before the match, we had already thought about winning it,” he admitted.

“Two months ago, we were already saying that it would be great to clinch the title in the derby,” Mkhitaryan added.

“And, voila! We did it!”

And of his own excellent season, Mkhitaryan said that “I just focus on doing my job, and then the work pays off.”

“We’ve written history together, also thanks to my teammates.”

“I want to thank everyone who’s celebrating with us. It’s time for us all to celebrate together.”

“We want to share this day and this Scudetto,” Mkhitaryan added. “We’ll see when it’s possible to celebrate the title with all the fans.”
