Goalkeeper Emil Audero will start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match against Empoli.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. Sky reports that Yann Sommer is fit enough to start, but that no chances will be taken with the Swiss.

So far this season, Audero has made three appearances for Inter. Each have come in different competitions.

The 27-year-old has been at the Nerazzurri on loan from Sampdoria since last summer.

Audero made his debut for the club against Benfica in the Champions League. Then he also started against Bologna in the Coppa Italia round of sixteen.

Most recently, Audero started for Inter in a Serie A match away to Lecce in February. That was the former Juventus keeper’s league debut for the Nerazzurri.

Emil Audero To Start For Inter Vs Empoli – No Risks Taken With Yann Sommer

And according to Sky, Audero will get the chance to start for Inter in the league for the second time this evening.

The backup keeper will get the nod ahead of Yann Sommer.

The reason for Sommer dropping out is that the 35-year-old former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper has only just come back from an ankle injury.

This was sustained during the international break.

Sommer had been with the Switzerland national team during the break. The Inter keeper started in a friendly match against Denmark.

However, Sommer had to come off the pitch during the first half of that friendly match.

The reason was that the 35-year-old had picked up an ankle sprain.

Sommer returned early from the national team, and spent the remainder of the international break recovering.

Sky confirm that Sommer has fully recovered from the sprain. He would be ready to start.

But out of an abundance of caution, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will not rush the Swiss straight back into action.
