Cesc Fabregas looked to be setting the world alight in his first few games in charge at Como, but the excitement has started to fade in recent weeks.
The 36-year-old Spaniard, who hung up his boots at the end of last season, became the head coach of the Como first team in November after the club’s decision to dismiss Moreno Longo, giving the former midfielder his first real chance in the dugout.
Fabregas immediately impressed on the Como bench, winning three of his first four games in charge. After a loss to Brescia on December 16, he stepped back into an assistant manager role due to his lack of UEFA coaching badges. Osian Roberts was then officially named head coach for the time being.
Page 24 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how the Fabregas boost has started to clearly wear off at Como now, with the team’s average results hardly improving compared to the former midfielder’s predecessor Longo.
Longo averaged twenty-one points across his 12 games in charge this season, 1.75 per match, and Fabregas has managed 24 in 13, an average of 1.84 per game.
Como have won just two of their last five Serie B matches and currently sit fifth in the league table, nine points behind league leaders Parma.
