Tottenham’s loan signing, Timo Werner, is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during the recent North London derby against Arsenal.

Approximately 22 players from Ange Postecoglou’s squad have faced injuries throughout the season, highlighting the team’s struggle with fitness.

Timo Werner became the latest victim, after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Lilywhites’ recent 2-3 loss against Arsenal last weekend.

The German international was forced off the pitch with the physio’s assistance, and was substituted by Brennan Johnson.

BIld reported yesterday that the future of the German at Spurs remains uncertain after the injury, but Spurs could make a permanent move for him.

And now the transfer expert has shared the latest on Werner. Romano cited Postecoglou’s comments on his official handle on X, where the Australian manager mentioned that with only two and a half weeks left until the end of the season, the left-winger wouldn’t have sufficient time to recover.

He also claimed that the club will decide whether to activate the buy option in his contract this month.

The Italian wrote on X:

“Timo Werner, out for the rest of the season due to hamstring injury.”

“Spurs will decide this month about buy option clause worth €16m from RB Leipzig.”

In January, Tottenham secured Werner on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig, with an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Spurs must decide whether to activate the buy option clause worth €16 million for the 28-year-old before the start of next month’s European Championship, as it will expire thereafter.

Werner has shown flashes of his pace and acceleration on the left side of the attack, contributing with 2 goals and 3 assists in his 13 Premier League appearances this season.

Ultimately, the decision lies with Postecoglou regarding whether he deems Werner suitable for his plans next season, where he aims to compete for the English top-flight crown.
