Wednesday's UEFA Europa Conference League final was marred by ugly scenes involving West Ham United fans.

Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi suffered a bloody cut on his head after being struck by an object thrown from the crowd.

This was not an isolated incident. Dozens of plastic pint cups ended up on the field during the first half at Prague's Eden Arena.

Nicolas Gonzalez was one of the first Fiorentina players to be hit.

The Argentina striker reacted with humor by catching a cup and pretending to drink from it.

But what happened next was no laughing matter.

Biraghi was bombarded with cups and other plastic objects as he prepared to take a corner kick.

At least one missile hit Biraghi, drawing blood and giving him an injury which required medical treatment.

Biraghi responded by sarcastically applauding the section of the Hammers fans where many of the objects had been thrown from.

West Ham's players then urged their own supporters to behave better as the prospect of the game being suspended loomed large.

Fortunately, play was able to resume after Biraghi had been bandaged up.
