Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence joined Italian club Genoa earlier this month.

The 23-year-old was on loan at Leeds United during the first half of the season and he returned to his parent club this month after his loan deal was terminated by the Championship outfit.

There have been rumours that there were issues with the defender’s discipline and professionalism. Journalist Martin Lipton has now shared a behind-the-scenes update regarding the 23-year-old full-back.

Lipton has revealed that the defender will have to work on his maturity if he wants to succeed at the highest level.

“Spence has gone to Genoa, never to return, from what I’m hearing. There seems to be issues. I’m hearing things that suggest he has a lot of maturity left to find let’s just say,” Lipton said speaking on The Spurs Show.

Spence was rated highly in England before his move to Tottenham Hotspur and it will be interesting to see if he can get his career back on track with regular football at Italian club now. If he can impress at Genoa during the second half of the season, he might get another opportunity to salvage his Spurs career next season.

The 23-year-old has the ability to succeed at a top Premier League club, but he will need to get over his attitude problems in order to thrive at the highest level.

If Spurs decide to sell him permanently at the end of the season, an impressive loan at Genoa would help him attract big clubs in the summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the coming months.
