Nashville remains in good shape in the tournament and dreams of reaching the final. In the quarterfinals, they secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Minnesota United, with goals from Shaquell Moore, Teal Bunbury, Alex Muyl, Sam Surridge, and Hany Mukhtar.
Previously, in the Round of 16, Nashville had defeated Club America in a penalty shootout (6-5) after a 2-2 draw in regular time. Sam Surridge had equalized the score in the match’s final play, enabling the decisive shootout that secured victory for Tennessee’s team.
The same approach proved effective for them in the Round of 32, where they eliminated Cincinnati FC on penalties after a 1-1 draw. In the group stage, Nashville had advanced to the knockout round by finishing second, behind Toluca, the only opponent that managed to defeat them.
Monterrey form
Monterrey defeated Los Angeles FC in the quarterfinals. The reigning MLS champions had dominated in the previous rounds, but the Mexican team surpassed them with a solid 3-2 triumph. Sergio Canales, Sergi Palencia, and Rogelio Funes Mori scored for the Rayados.
Fernando Ortíz’s team won all the matches in the Leagues Cup, scoring 12 goals and conceding only 4. In the Round of 32, Monterrey defeated Portland Timbers 1-0, and in the Round of 16, they overcame Tigres UANL with the same scoreline.
In the group stage, they advanced without any issues by defeating Real Salt Lake 3-0 and Seattle Sounders 4-2. Heading into these semifinals, Monterrey is positioned as one of the contenders to win the Leagues Cup trophy.
