A Turbulent Week

City will return to the Premier League title race after an exhausting week that saw them play in two cup competitions. On Wednesday night, the Citizens suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the penalty shootouts against Real Madrid as they crashed out of the Champions League.

However, only three days later, they bounced back to reach the FA Cup final after a narrow victory over Chelsea. Kevin De Bruyne returned to the starting lineup despite his injury scare against Real Madrid. However, Manuel Akanji and Haaland stayed out of the matchday squad.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now handed another injury blow ahead of their match against Brighton on Thursday.

Latest Updates From Man City Training

According to Sky Sports, Haaland stayed out of his side’s training session on Tuesday, still recovering from the muscle injury that he picked up against Real Madrid. Another notable absentee was Foden, who played for 90 minutes against Chelsea on Saturday. The club have offered no explanation for the “world-class” star’s absence.

John Stones, who came off at half-time against the Blues, trained alongside his teammates. In his press conference on Wednesday, Guardiola is also expected to offer an update on Akanji, who missed the FA Cup game with a knock.

More Rest for Man City

THe manager fumed at his side’s congested schedule after the Chelsea game, saying (via ESPN): “It’s unacceptable to let us play today. It’s impossible, for the health of the players. It’s not normal.”

His side are set to have a two-week period without mid-week games soon, a perfect opportunity for their injured stars to return.

Following their match against Brighton, City will take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Citizens will then face their next two league opponents (Wolves and Fulham) in the span of two weeks.
