Inter fear Marko Arnautovic will have to miss considerable time because of the thigh strain he suffered in the stoppage time of Sunday’s win over Empoli. The degree of the lesion will be determined by the tests shortly. Coach Simone Inzaghi was quizzed about signing a free agent after the tilt (via SportMediaset).

“We haven’t talked about it, but we lost a key player. While rotating, it’s important to have four strikers. I’ll evaluate. Davy Klaasen and Henrikh Mkhitaryan can advance their position if necessary. We hope he and Stefano Sensi return soon.”

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Arnautovic could be out for up to three months if the injury was as severe as it looked initially.

The pool of options to substitute for him isn’t particularly enticing. It comprises Stefano Okaka, Fabio Quagliarella, Simone Zaza, and Felipe Caicedo, who’s familiar with the tactician, Calciomercato informs. Instead, Eden Hazard, Alejandro Gomez, Karim Bellarabi, Santi Mina, and André Ayew have different traits.

Our Take on Inter and Arnautovic

Unfortunately, that’s the issue with signing older players. He’s coming off a tough season at Bologna too, although mostly due to a foot injury and not muscular ones. They didn’t target him just for his experience but for his skill set too, as they needed a big-bodied bruiser. A newcomer would probably need as much time as he does to recover to get into an acceptable shape at this point.
